Having bad breath can make everyone around you very uncomfortable. People might even begin avoiding you just because of the smell that comes from your mouth. In a majority of cases, the cause is usually poor oral care. The good news is that there are quite a number of things that you can do about it. Below are a few steps you can take to ensure that your breath always smells fresh and clean.
How to get rid of bad breath
Brush and floss your teeth
Failing to brush your teeth for a long time will without a doubt lead to bad breath. The sticky buildup on your teeth, known as plaque, collects bacteria which causes bad breath. The problem is made worse by trapped food. Brushing and flossing your teeth properly will ensure that you get rid of the plaque and trapped food. For the best results, you should brush your teeth after every meal, or at least twice a day if your schedule does not allow for more.
Scrap the tongue
The tongue usually gets a coating, which forms over time. The coating can host lots of bacteria which will result in the bad smell. You should thus brush your tongue using a good toothbrush to get rid of the coating, as regularly as you can. There are some types of toothbrushes designed with a scraper, specifically used for brushing the tongue. Using such will work best, as it will not only get rid of bacteria and food debris but dead cells as well.
Using mouthwash
You should make a habit of rinsing your mouth with mouthwash. By getting rid of bacteria, it adds a layer of protection to prevent bad breath. It also adds a fresh and minty taste to your breath. However, you must use the right mouthwash for it to work well. The mouthwash should have properties such as antibacterial. Cheap and low-quality mouthwash will only cover the smell and not stop it at its source.
Watch what you eat
Some types of food are known to result in bad breath. Good examples include garlic and onions. At times even brushing your teeth might not help with such foods. If you are suffering from extreme bad breath, it might be a good idea to stay away from such foods if you do not wish to make it any worse.
